BLOW YOUR DIET

How to BUST a Plateau

Thursday, May 04, 2017

I have been really good lately. Seriously. I´ve been moving, doing at least 30 minutes of some exercise every day....I have been eating right and drinking more water than ever...and mostly NOT picking. I love salt. I know its a sin. Hello your heart. Stupid. My sisters give me a bad time for always using so much salt and I´m like, "Leave me alone. I eat healthier than any of you. The food is so much fresher in Spain. I eat a Mediterranean diet all year round."

But I even quit salt! YES.  It has been 21 days...you know ...takes 21 days to form a habit. Check! Done!!

.....but the last few weeks....I am NOT dropping any weight.
Yesterday I didn't lose and today I gained WHAT IS UP WITH THAT????

OH KNOW Plateau

YEP that's it. And the worse part is, it is SO Demotivating.
Here you are really putting in effort, making sacrifices, doing yourself good and your body isn't cooperating. Your first reaction is Screw it and head for the donut, burger or beer.
Stop right there.

Give it 3 days and a little thought.
First get out the check list
1. We hate this but, is your period on its way??
2. Did you have a beer, glass of wine, mini snickers...its not much but turns into sugar in the body. Think hard. (I pick all the time. My absolute worst downfall. I pick SO much when I get home from work that I even started putting on my Whitening Strips as soon as I walk in the door so I CANT eat! Pathetic.)
3. Are you resting your body. 7-8 hours a night regularly?
4. Are you consistent with exercise & drinking water?
Now say:
 "YES I CAN"
We are BUSTIN OUT!

Here are the BEST plateau busting secret strategies, tidbits and quality information I have picked up over the years.
Don't Freak out.
It just means its time for change.
A few small changes.
  • Eat a little less at night
  • Drink more water
  • Take a walk in the morning now that there is more daylight and if you exercise in the morning, take a walk at night. Yup more light in the evening too.  PLUS that sunlight provides more than fresh air. It provides time to clear your head. Its the endorphins. And it feels wonderful. ALL GOOD.
MORE Tips & Tricks
  • Double check your calorie intake. Here in Spain we use olive oil like it is the godsend of food sources. It goes in anything and everything and I don´t mean a few drops. "It´s good for you, it´s olive oil" Yes, true...however...1 tablespoon of olive oil has 120 calories. Use it so your egg wont stick to the pan, in your salad and on grilled veggies and it adds up. Watch the amount you use.
  • Stay away from carbs in the evening. I didn't realize cauliflower had more carbs than other veggies and I had a bunch, and at a late dinner!! BOOM...up goes the scale.
  • Watch out for Sneaky carbs - I put non fat milk in my coffee and have 2 cups a day...thats 10 grams of carbs. I switched to almond milk... cut that in half and tastes like Starbucks!
  • Vary your routine. Our bodies get bored. YEP.
Your body is telling you. "I´m tired of this sorry old routine." You don't have to do more, you just have to change. That´s fun. Discover something new.

  • Eat Something every 3 hours....healthy of course, to keep your metabolism up and be sure you aren't skipping breakfast.
Go out and have some fun, a few laughs...it is almost summer! Here is one that makes me laugh!!
Have a great weekend!
